Conforming to cover means shaping your body to the surrounding environment so you present as little as possible to the threat while still keeping your line of sight and fire.

Exposing only your weapon and your master eye accomplishes that by revealing just the element you need to engage—your firearm for accuracy and the dominant eye for quick sight alignment—while the rest of your body stays protected behind cover. Using the weapon as a metaphorical “third eye” doesn’t address the protective aspect of posture and exposure as clearly, and leaving cover only to gain a tactical advantage or slicing the pie describe movement strategies rather than the specific principle of minimizing exposure while maintaining visibility and aim.
